Mantovano truffle
The inaugural stop of our Mantua route is an event that includes 10 days of tastings with the best white truffle dishes and which, organized in Proloco di Borgofranco sul Po in the Province of Mantua, takes place in a heated marquee on Piazza Malavasi on 7-9, 14-16 and 21-24 October 2022.
Characterised by alluvial soils and a humid continental climate, the heart of the Basso Mantovano on the banks of the River Po is in fact an ideal location for the spontaneous growth of high-quality white truffle. It is a high-value product, the prestige with which it is regarded being evident by the existence of its very own dedicated museum, the Truffle Museum - Museo del Tartufo (Tru.Mu ) in Bonizzo, as well as from the passion and determination that in 1992 prompted several local truffle hunters to found the Associazione Strada del Tartufo di Mantova, a non-profit initiative aimed at protecting the region’s truffle heritage.
At the Fiera del Tartufo Bianco in Borgofranco you will be able to try all truffles in all shapes and forms, enhanced by the undisputed skills of the chefs invited to the event. White truffles are not just reserved for traditional risottos: here their use extends to the seasoning of several other dishes, such as tartare, pumpkin tortelli, scallops, omelettes and cheese platters.
